District Information

The Shakori District serves Scouts and Scouters of Orange and Chatham counties, North Carolina. We are a member of the Occoneechee Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The Shakori District Roundtable meets the 1st Monday of every month (except July and August) at 7 p.m. at Sunrise Church, 1315 New Hope Trace Rd., off New Hope Church Rd., just north of I-40

The Shakori District Committee meets the 3rd Monday of every month (except July) at 7 p.m. at North Chapel Hill Baptist Church, off Martin Luther King Road, just south of I-40 at the NC-86 intersection.

Cub Scouters,

We here at Pack 420 wanted to say thanks once again for everyone coming out to the derby last week. We had a great time and hope that everyone was able to enjoy the spirit of scouting there. Thanks go out to the numerous individuals who put in many hours preparing for the derby. It was definitely worth it. Additional thanks go to Randy Bernstein with Etch 'n Stitch for the amazing trophies.

NORTH CAROLINA YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS 2014 Spring Weekend Crews

Join the North Carolina Youth Conservation Corps (NCYCC) for an action packed weekend (March 14-16 or March 21-23) of outdoor work and adventure. NCYCC "crews," are small co-ed groups of crew members and two trained leaders that work as a team to complete high priority outdoor conservation projects that benefit the local community. The NCYCC is partnering with the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association, Eno River Association, and Eno River State Park to offer Durham, Orange and Wake County young people ages 14 to 19 the opportunity to become a NCYCC crew member for a weekend.

Post Office Box for Occoneechee Council has been closed

The post office box once used by the Council Service Center (Box 41229) was closed / discontinued Dec 31, 2013.

The sole mailing address for the Council Service Center is the street address:

All correspondence with Council sent by mail, including Eagle Scout reference letters should now be sent to the street address.

The 2014 Shakori District Committee email list has been set up. If you are a member of the District Committee you should have received an email from this list on January 9th. If you did not receive this, please let Joel (joel@jdunns.com) know.

District Pinewood Derby - Mar 1

All Packs,

The District Pinewood Derby is rapidly approaching and we here in Pack 420 are very excited to be the hosts of the first ever Shakori District Pinewood Derby!

The Derby will take place on Sat, March 1 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1050 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC. We ask that all packs fill out the attached registration form and $20 check no later than Feb 15. We will then be able to register all the cars well in advance of the derby.

District Committee Workshop 2/1/14

We just wanted to let you know that we have confirmed a location for the February 1, 2014 District Committee Workshop (details below) and hope you will help us out getting the word out to your new Shakori District committee members!

We look forward to seeing everyone at the workshop and please do emphasize that everyone needs to attend- we all need the sharing of experience from leaders who have served before and certainly hope to give some good training to leaders who are new or newer to the District Committee!

EVERY TWO SECONDS SOMEONE NEEDS BLOOD

WHAT: Teens in Venture Crew 9 of Chapel Hill continue to work towards the service component of the National Congressional Award as they plan their sixth blood drive event to help save lives in their community. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone needs blood.

WHEN: Saturday, January 18 from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
